Is there such a thing? Has anyone done one? Where did you purchase the top? Did you quilt it by hand or by machine? Is it doable on a domestic machine? Do you have a picture online?
I'd love to do one, but can't imagine trying to draw/mark a pattern on a blank piece of material -- at least not for the first one. I got a feather quilt book for Christmas and it goes through the process of drawing out feather designs, but before I do that I would love to practice the actual motions, so a pre-printed one with feathers would be awesome! Anyone have any hints/stores/etc? |
They are gorgeous and there's a quilter on this board that does whole cloth. I can't remember her mane but if you do a search in pictures for whole cloth you'll probably find her.

There sure is! I bought one for my BFF for Christmas. It's a wedding ring pattern.
You can try quilt pounce & simple stencils. I'm happy with the results. Your LQS probably carries them. If not, Chlotilda's does. |
one of our lqs's carry a decent selection to choose from in sizes from pillow-tops to queen size quilt tops of pre-printed whole cloth quilts, you can also purchase printed patterns to trace.

Someone here gave this link the other day. These are the printed tops, only - various sizes:
http://quiltingstencils.com/preprintedwholecloth.aspx These are queen size, printed top, backing fabric and binding kits: http://www.keepsakequilting.com/prod...cloth-Kits.htm They're the same basic designs, but quiltingstencils.com carries smaller sizes and sells the printed tops without the backing fabric. I think it would be nice to put a beautiful print on the back - but then the quilting won't show as much on the back as if it were a solid color. I think there's at least one wholecloth kit in my future, but I can't decide which one. :) |
Love those two links....now my imagination is running wild...I wonder if I could take the mini ones, combine them into a larger piece and then quilt the whole thing -- so basically I could do 12 or so with sashing in between? And then do the quilting. Just SID on the sashings though.....
Do you think that could work? That way I could tackle one square at a time but end up with a large quilt! Hmmm....going to have to think on this one....and dream. And yes, I also thought about doing a background printed....or at least a different color. Going to have to sleep on this one for a few nights! |

I've done a pre-printed one by hand but it took forever and I never finished it because I got bored of it. Maybe I'll hunt it down and finish it now!

I think I would like to quilt the individual blocks, then put them together with small sashing.
Free-motion quilting something smaller than a mammoth size - what a walk in the park that would feel like! LOL! :D But, I keep looking at the Feathered Pineapple design in the queen size, too. Gosh, how nice to have something sitting here, always ready for a couple extra hours' of quilting. I've heard that they can take 80-120 hours to quilt by machine - can't imagine trying to do one by hand! Ack! |
