Hi everyone, sorry if this has been asked before, but I was wondering if I should prewash my quilt batting even if I didn't prewash my fabrics for my quilt top? What difference does it make with the puckering of the top? Would the top pucker less or the same (after you washed the quilt) if the batting was already preshrunk? My batting is Hobbs Heirloom 80/20.
Thanks for any answers!

I have never prewashed my batting..sounds like more work to me.
And i know pre washing fabrics is a matter of choice. I don't do that either..unless they are Batiks or solid colors...I wash my quilts when they are done, before i pass them on. That is just me..and my humble opinion.

If you don't prewash the fabric, I doubt that not prewashing the batting will make any difference. the crinkly look comes from both shrinking some during the first couple of washings.

I don't prewash my batting. Your batting being a polyester cotton blend, won't shrink much. I usually use warm and natural and it shrinks but I like the look of the batting and quilt all shrinking a little.

The package says it will shrink 5% but I'm not sure how much that is exactly on a 90x70 quilt, and my math skills are bad so I'm not sure I even want to try to figure it out LOL!

I also use Hobbs 80/20 and depending on the look I want I may preshrink my batting. However, do NOT pre-WASH as let it agitate in the washer!! (Ask me how I know!!) I put my batting in washer & fill w/hot water; poke it down in and let it soak with the washer lid up. I then spin the water out & dry in a hot dryer. Hope this helps.

I don't prewash fabrics and I have used Hobbs 80/20 without prewashing. Turned out fine. It doesn't shrink as much as 100% cotton batting.

I don't wash my fabrics or my batting. It's always worked for me.
