Ok, I think I understand this, but wanted to make sure.

I was looking at the tutorials yesterday and the one about grandmother's flower garden has the template printed on the back of the fabric.

In order to do that, do I iron freezer paper to the front of the fabric and run it through my printer that way? Since it's just template lines and nothing permenant, I don't need to pre-treat it in anyway, right?

Can it really be this easy?

I see where you are coming from on this one, but I think you need to put the freezer paper on the back of the fabric and not the front. Then when you cut it out you leave 1/4" seam line around the template to fold over. Does that make sense?? Tell me what you think.

I understand what you are talking about, but I was referring to actually printing the shape on the back of the fabric so you could cut it out and already have the sewing lines there. Here's a picture from PatriceJ's tutorial so you can see what I'm looking at.

that's my tutorial. the only time i don't print my hexagons onto the back of the fabric is when the fabric is too dark for it to show up. it adds time and effort to the process, but knowing exactly where to start and stop sewing makes it soooooo much easier to put everything together precisely i think it's worth the extra steps and fussy cutting. a purely personal choice, of course.

i recommend using repositionable sticker project paper instead of freezer paper - if you can find it and afford it. (one of my printers is quite happy with grocery store freezer paper. the other tends to snack on it once in a while.) i've also read a lot of positive comments about the special grade freezer paper sheets made by cj jenkins.

you should test print a sample on some scrap fabric. the ink in my HP printer washes out completely. the ink in my canon pixmapro doesn't.

by the way ... i designed and printed all the fabrics used in the tutorial myself. i pretreated with bubble jet set. the print on the front is permanent. because i print the backs later, that washes out.

I just thought about it and my way wouldn´t work. The way you have just said is correct, or should I say Patrice said.
