Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time. I have a Nosegay 1930's quilt that I decided I needed to soak and clean. It had some stains on the back that I wanted to see if I could get rid of or lighten. Put it in the washer and let it soak for most of the day. When I took it out it had some bright yellow squares on the back. They weren't there before. One of the boquets had an orange fabric in it as part of the flowers. (squares to form the boquet). The orange had bled through to the back. I was sick. It may now be worse that before but at least it is not dingy looking. Evidently it had never been washed. It is still a beautiful quilt. Hand pieced and nice hand quilting.
Question: Is there anything I can do about the yellow on the back?

If it is just on the back , I would just let it go, unless someone has some suggestion.

If you didn't dry it, try washing it with Orvis Quilt Soap, rub it directly on the stains and use a Shout Color Grabber.
If you don't have those on hand, keep the quilt soaking until you can get them. You may have to soak and wash with the Orvis a time or two. Dry it outside, white side up in the sunlight.
Good luck

on the subject of Color Grabbers.. I have to stand aand bow and say thank you to those that suggested this at one other time. I had never really heard of this or what it was until someone explained it's use. It has really been hopefully on several occassions.

I just bought an old girl on e-bay with some set-in color runs. I'm going to try the color run remover that Hancock fasbrics sells - think the brand is Carbona - so I'll let you know how it works.

Going to the fabric store tomorrow - See what I will do for board members!
