Problems with threads with Janome 6300

Hi all,
I have a Janome 6300, which I really love a lot. It is a real workhorse of a machine and simple to use. My one issue is that I keep breaking or shredding the thread. The tension is on about a 4, and I use pretty good threads: usually the Coats and Clark Quilting thread, or All Purpose, sometimes the Gutenberg thread. Does anyone have this machine and can recommend what kind of threads work best? Thanks!! I find this so frustrating, to be sewing along, and then see that I haven't sewn a darn thing in 12 inches!

Thanks much,
Nancy

I don't have that machine; I have a Kenmore/Janome and two Vikings and they love aurofil. No breakage problems plus it has really low lint and lots of colors to chose from.

Thanks! I will pick up some today after work,

I have a Janome 6600P and it LOVES aurifil the best! It seems expensive, but it lasts a long time.

I have a Janome and had the same problem years ago. I find that if I don't thread through the very last vise near the needle....just disregard it.....I don't have any thread breaking problems. I also don't have any tension problems when I by-pass it.

I have a 6300 and it looooves Connecting Threads and Superior Threads. I've never tried Aurifil but am planning on it. Coats and Clark has always shredded or gotten tangled for me. Hope this helps.

I don't know, my brothers are not picky, they use everything with no problem. I always wonder why some machines are si finicky

If this is just happening now, has something changed? Are you using a denser fabric? Sometimes thread will shred and break if you're using a smaller (80/12) needle on dense fabric that needs a (90/14) or even a (100/16) . you might also just have a bad spool of thread - it happens- try a different spool before you give up.

my guess is that you need a different needle.

could be that the one you are using is worn out, the wrong size, or the wrong type.

You might need to try a new needle. There is often a very small burr you can't see readily. Needles do wear out, as well. Or there might be one on your bobbin case. I had that happen with my Bernina. I have not done at all well with Coats and Clark threads, however. I usually use Signature or Gutermanns. I have only tried Aurofil once, although several friends recommend it. That particular spool was a dud, which I am told is not at all common. I just replaced my Janome 1600DP with a 6600. I have been very happy with both. By the way, it also occurs to me that lint anywhere can lead to thread breakage.

Thank you for all of your suggestions - very good ones that I didn't even know about!
