Puffyness in the middle..
I am working on a d9p and when I sew the seam to join the 4 squares together, I have a hump in the middle, I took it apart and tried to see what the problem was, just can't figure it out. I know some of you ladies will be able to tell me what I am doing to cause this.. thanks in advance.

Make sure your original 9 patch is square. Also when you cut it into 4, make sure they are all square and the same size. That's the only thing I can think of. Ann

Starching fabric before cutting can help prevent this type of problem. Most likely the fabric has stretched from handling, especially from sewing.

Starch press then use a hammer

If you cutting is good and blocks are squared, you can use spray starch heavily and steam it back into place. Hold the iron above it at first and it will shrink back where you need it to be. Then press gently. Sometimes just handling it too much and ironing instead of pressing will warp it out of shape.

I'm hoping to get rid of my puffiness in the middle by dieting for about a year. :)

Cut accurately and sew the blocks together without stretching the fabrics. When you sew the squares back together, make sure you nest the seams. Where the seams meet, one seam set goes down and the other seam set goes up so the kind of lock together at the intersection.
