I use mine all the time as a stiletto, for holding down those pesky seams when I sew over them.
Oh, I love my Purple Thang! I use it as a stiletto, to push out the corners or smooth a turned curve, hook the loop when bringing up the bobbin thread & use the flat end to "finger press" a short seam. I lives underneath the extension table on my machine along with my thread snip scissors, seam ripper and seam gauge (yes, I still use one of those things on occasion!)
I use it as a stiletto or as a bodkin for elastic, cord, etc. :)
It's a pretty useful thing. The square end is a perfect 1/4 inch measure. The pointy end has a slight curve so it's perfect to smooth out the seam when you turn a curved seam. It has a slot so you can use it to run ribbon or yarn or elastic thru a casing. I'm sure there's a jillion other uses for it.
Pat, I couldn't live without my seam guages. One of the best products out there. Maybe because I grew up with one.lol

This is my FAVORITE tool! the little square end fits RIGHT between the sides on my 1/4 inch foot. I can hold down any pesky seams that need to go opposite of where they THINK they should! The pointy end I use like a stylus- to hold that LAST little end I"m sewing on to stay on line...and I used it as a point turner. I think last could I had THREE... and yes, it says RIGHT on it "That Purple THANG" lol

I love my Purple Thang! Great for using like a stiletto, running ribbon in a casing, and I even use it to hold up my hair when I have a power surge! ;)
Thanks uall I had a pretty good ideal how to use it but uall put so many other ways also.it was just one of those things I thought I had to have. Iam glad I did
I have one of those. I know you can use it to remove those little white bits of leftover paper when peicing. The slit is to run a ribbon through so you can hang it around your neck and keep it close at hand. It works great as a stilletto. I'm not sure what else but I just had to have one to because it was purple.
I never thought I'd use mine but boy it's handy. I use it to push out corners, hold down the 1/4 inch seam allowances at intersections, help turn tiny objects inside out, the 1/4 inch gauge is handy....I did thread a piece of ribbon through the hole to hang it up and so it doesn't get lost.
It was invented by Lynn Graves of Chama, NM for just the uses you describe. She likes purple.
I use it for pushing out corners and ends. I thing you can use it also to thread laces and elastic in things
I love my Purple Thang! It sits beside my sewing machine, right next to my little sharp scissors. I reach for it all the time, even use it to pick fuzz of my foot. The foot the sewing machine that is ... I keep finding uses for it!
My purple thing is right beside my sewing machine all the time, along with my snippets!! Love both.

I picked up one, and have already used mine for pushing out corners. I can see many uses for it. I also like purple.
I bought one a couple of years ago - and now I need to find it and sounds like it will be a great tool.
I use chopsticks.
I have one and I like the various purpose its for but i find that its a lil flimsy when im pushing out corners.. otherwise its a pretty creative notion..
I love mine.........I've had it for years.
Also love that purple thing.Great for turning points
I have one and I simply love it. It works for a lot of things..great for pushing out the corners of a square, etc., etc. I love that "thang".
Yes its is the Purple Thang I use mine all the itme for turning corners out, holding down small bits of seams.
It works great when you're stuffing small objects. It pushes that stuffing down really nicely!

/when I bought mine they said it was for use in hand appliique. When using a glue stick you use
the purple thang instead of your finger, etc. I've misplaced mine; did use it some but seemed my fingers did just as well without it. |
It is called "purple tang". You use it to apply glue to help you with needle turn applique and also to make sure your points are "pointy". Comes in handy
I have been using mine for about 8 years..maybe more...I am always giving them as gifts! THey are one of the best tools to have in your room/sewing kit! I have one in my room, one in my sewing jar in the living room, and one in each of my two retreat/class bags!
Love my "Purple Thank" Use it for poking at corners to straighten them out & especially to hold pesky seams while you sew over them.
If its long an narrow with a slight curved end on one side and flatter on the other it is wonderful. I use us when my fingers won't fit somewhere or when I need a third hand..... You will find several uses for it once you start looking.

It is a great tool to use to keep your fingers away from the needle when sewing on your machine. j

The Purple Thang is pretty popular on this board. It's been the subject of several threads...I like mine too!
I love that purple thang! It has many uses.
I have a purple thang and love it! I use it to push out corners in the pillowcases that I make and it works just great. I use it for other things too that need to come to a point. Better than some of the other pointy things I used to use.
I discoverd another use. My fingernails are short right now because i'm having a dermatitis issue on my finger tips and I used My Purple Thang to help take the paper backing off of some applique peices last night to expose the glue web. It worked really well to get between the fabric and paper.
