Does anyone have links on how to embroider by machine as well as by hand? the basics would be good, thought I would try it.

machine embroidery by machine is usually done with an embroidery machine, you follow the instructions for the specific machine.
hand embroidery is an ancient art and there are tons of free information/patterns, tips and techniques. type 'free embroidery patterns' into a search and you will find thousands and thousands of them. the library is also a good resource for embroidery books

You can find a lot of hand embroidery patterns on the internet. You can do it on a regular sewing machine. I think it is called thread painting. I could never master it though. Good luck finding what you need.

The machine embroidery you are talking about is the way we did it before embroidery machines. It is now called 'Thread Painting'.
