I just bought this machine and love it! But I have a question. When using the quilting foot you can't use the backstitch lever. Do you manuly move it back and fourth to lock in the stitches?

I love my Juki too!!! I just do a few stitches in the beginning before I start quilting and a few at the end of my quilting. I have never had a problem with the quilting coming undone. most of my quilts are used and washed. Hope this helps.

I guess I should have said a few stitches in one place, than move on to quilting and end with a few stitches in one place.

I just bought this machine too. I have two questions. How do you get evenly spaced lines when using the walking foot? I have a quilt guide for my regular machine, but this walking foot doesn't have the hole to insert the guide. Has anyone found another type of guide for use on this type machine?

My other question is about the needle threader. I'm having a really hard time with it. If anyone has mastered it I'd love your advice.

I have the Juki TL 98QE and it doesn't have a needle threader, I don't like them.
Yes, the few stitches will be enough to hold the stitches.
I mostly do free motion quilting, when I use the walking foot, I try to line it up with something on the quilt, seam, edge, etc., you could mark lines to follow also.

I have found that a different needle can make a difference in the thread cutter working. For some reason, the eye in some needles seem to be a hair off and the little threader thing won't go throught the eye. Personally, I LOVE the threader.

Thanks for your reply! You are right most needle threaders are very annoying (although my Brother machines have great ones). It is not important. Your advice about lining up the foot with something on the fabric and/or marking is helpful. I was also wondering how you stay even when you are doing parallel lines of straight quilting. On my other machine I attach the guide and line the guide up with the previous straight line of stitching. I guess I could use the edge of the foot itself as the guide. The machine is great I'm glad I went for it.

Thanks Cheryl. I think that is probably what is happening the opening is slightly off. Too bad I'm getting old and can't really see what is happening at the eye of the needle even with a magnifier :). The threader might need a little adjustment. I'm sure my shop can help me with it.

I have had my Juki TL-98 Q for almost 3 years and I love it. I do all my FMQ on the Juki. Love the thread cutter on the footfeed and the needle threader. I don't use the walking foot very often. I have found I have just as much control at quilt in the ditch with FMQ as with the walking foot and I can do all my quilting without changing the feet.

That is good to know. When I tried the machine out last night for the first time I was very pleased with the free motion performance.

Hi Cheryl, I mastered the threader this afternoon. I agree with you...I love it. It works better than ones I have used on Bernina machines.
