I have been commissioned to make a quilt for a friend to give his wife for Christmas. He wants embroidery on the front only.
I know I need to use stabilizer to do this, my questions is... do you leave the stabilizer on? Do you use water soluable stabilizer? If so, when do you wash it out? Will it come out if I don't wash the quilt until it is completely done? I always use the embroidery as the "quilting" so this is all new to me. I figured I would put the top together then do the embroidery so I get the design centered in each block, but not sure what to do about the stabilizer.
Thanks for any suggestions.

I would embroider the blocks first with the stabilizer then remove it, then piece the top. It works out just fine.

I totally agree.

I used a soft tricot stablilizer and just left it in. Used 2 layers perpendicular to each other like you would when doing a TShirt.
Do the blocks before you assemble. As a matter of fact, oversize them a bit so if your placement is off, you can trim the block and not have to start over.

Thanks all for the suggestions... I appreciate it and will take your advice to do the embroidery first, then cut the block.
