I know how good a fabric is by the feel of it, but as for the high line of fabrics I have no idea. I have found this wonderful little shop about 40 minutes from me that has RJR, Jenny Beyer, Thimbleberries, Aunt Grace, Blue Hill, Civil War, Batiks fabric for just $5.00 a yard. They say that it is first quality. How would I know if this is first quality and is this a good deal? Thanks for any info.

That is a pretty good price for those lines of fabrics. I wouldn't hesitate to buy them :D:D:D

I would want to lay the fabric out and see if there are flaws in the print, or dye gradations. I got a piece of good fabric one time at a great price, only to get home and find that there was a place where the fabric had a fold in it when it went through the printing process. It was in the center of one side and made it almost useless to me.

inspect the fabric. companies don't make two qualities of the same print.

You should see any defects as they cut the fabric - I would buy it

well, you said you can tell good fabric by feeling it...so feel it. there is a little shop up north here that sells all of their fabric for $6 a yard... including the very same batiks my lqs sells for $10.50 a yard. I don't get there often but boy...when i do i stock up! :)i asked the lady how she could afford to sell her fabrics so cheap? she said her hubby told her she did not have to make money, she just couldn't spend any...she had to make enough to buy what she wanted.
