Just wondering I want to try my first attempt at FMQ, if Im making a octagonal table topper, do I start from the centre and work my way out? Or doesn't it matter where I start? Ive never done it before, only SID on my quilts
Thanks in advance ;) |
I took a class on FMQ recently and was told to always start in the middle. There are alot of VERY experienced quilters out there though...so I'd wait to see what they say as well.

free motion isn't as free as it sounds. Do you have a plan or are you meandering?
Just a meander, nothing too fancy, just to get my rytham on it
If you plan to stitch in the ditch with it at all, you would do the stitch in the ditch first, then you can start wherever you want. I usually try to get the middle over with first, it's the hardest to get to.
I was taught to start in the center too and work outwards. It does help to keep the sandwich from shifting around :D:D:D
I do my centers first, then the borders. Also helps to quilt the borders east and west instead of north and south,,makes the borders less apt to stretch.
I start from the middle and work my way out. Seem to avoid puckers that way. I use basting spray and that helps a lot too.
Well, I gave it a go, and got no puckers, which is a good start, but lots of eyelashing lol, so I guess I got to slow down on my curves. Pretty happy with my first effort
