I've been told by my sewing shop NOT to use my good scissors or rotary blades with polybatting, as they will make the blades dull. I have an old pair of scissors and used blades when I cut batting.

Very good info everyone, thank you so much!

I had never givent that a thought!!! Thanks for asking and for the answer....from now on I'll use my old scissors for cutting batting. My good fabric scissors are a pair made in Germany that my grandmother bought over 40 yrs ago!!!!

I'm so glad this question was asked as I had never even given it a thought. Glad I haven't used my good scissors on poly batting. However, I know I have used a rotary cutter on it. Now I will watch that carefully, too.

this may be a bit off-topic - sorry if it is--

that wonderful fleece that is so much fun to work with - it dulls my rotary blades really fast

This is why I love this board. You asked a question I hadn't even thought of asking and it was info I needed. Thanks.

Thanks for asking that question. It had never even occurred to me. I don't use poly much, but I'd be really bummed to mess up my fabric scissors!

You can get good scissors sharpened.

I use only Gingher scissors for anything that has to do with sewing. I've had my Gingher's since about 1981. Never had them sharpened and they are still as sharp as a razor blade and I have done quite a bit of sewing in the past 50 years. I do cut my batting with them. I do not cut my batting with rotary cutters.
I just found out over the week-end that Gingher has a rotary cutter. Joanne only had a left handed pair. I can't wait to get one.
What's the real answer.........
