I just started sewing flannel strips together and have a few questions.Do you do anything different with flannel? Wider seams or different stitch length? How do you press your seams? steam or no steam?
I know a lot of you sew with flanne, but it's been years since I have.....

I don't know abot anyone else, or if there are any rules about flannel... but I don't do anything different.

Clean your machine often.

ditto to b.zang plus I use a slightly wider seam and I press open as flannel is a bulkier fabric. Just be sure and use the same seam allowance all the way thru the project.

I don't take any bigger seams, but again do clean your machine a little more often. I have only ever done rag quilts, so can't answer the pressing question, but would love to know the answer. I am getting ready to do a baby quilt in flannel.

wash your fabrics first. It will shrink a lot.

I use wider seams, as it tends to unravel more. I also use the narrowest zig zag stitch to reinforce them. :D:D:D

wash flannels first because they do shrink alot and can distort your finished project if you don't and clean your machine often.

A walking foot will help.

I use a larger seam about 3/8. Washing and drying the flannel is the best advice.
