Question about walking foot for sewing machine
 

I have a Singer #4562 and recently purchased a walking foot from Amazon that looks exactly like the one pictured in my instruction manual. However, the bottom of the foot is about 1/2" above the sewing machine even when it is lowered. I can sew very, very heavy things, but not quilts. I know I am installing the foot correctly and just can't figure out what is wrong. I have 3 baby quilts all ready to be machine quilted and need help. Any suggestions? Thanks, Granbear

You probably have the wrong walking foot. You need to know whether your machine is a high shank, low shank, slant shank etc. Here is a link to explain: http://www.anniescatalog.com/pages/which_foot.html

Check the length of the shank. Shanks come in 2 length - short and long. My singet takes a short shank walking foot. Since the foot does not sit on the fabric that lead me to believe you have the wrong length shank . check Kens sewing center on line for correct shank number. Also you can ususally buy one fairly cheap at Joanns at a store that does not have a Viking Sewing center in it. Amazon will return items very easily.

I agree. You can't tell from a picture whether the foot is a low shank or high shank.

I was sent the wrong foot once and am leery of ordering from that place again. The right one of another foot was right, the other type was wrong shank.

It appears this machine is a slant shank machine and you will have to have a walking foot that is also slant shank.
