Maybe they are not the right feet for your machine. What machine are you using?

I am using a low shank singer stylist 533. I checked and rechecked before I ordered these from ebay... :o( For the free motion one I have a feed dog cover plate so that it "should" work but I don't think something is right and the "spring" on the free motion doesn't go up and down when sewing ... Maybe I misunderstood how it is suppose to work.. not sure

I took a picture of the bottom of the walking foot and it doesn't look square to me. Could that be the problem?

and on the free motion foot my needle is at it's highest position but it barely touches the wire "spring" part there fore the foot doesn't go up and down when trying to do the free motion any suggestions?

What kind of machine do yhou have? Is this made for your machine?

I bought a walking foot that looked like that and had to put a wooden stake through its heart and bury it in the back yard. It didn't work right on the Janome I bought it for or the low shank Singer (An old Stylist) I still use a lot.

My directions for the beast were not one bit of help.
1. Raise the needle and presser foot.
2. Loosen the set screw on the foot holder to remove it.
3. Attach the walking foot to the presser bar with the lever on the needle clamp and secure it with the set screw.
* Operate the machine at a low to medum speed.
* Set the stitch length in the range of 0-4.

I bought a different one from Nancy's Notions and so far, so good.

I checked with the seller before I purchased and that model was listed at the bottom of their listing.

One time the foot popped out of its little holder. They're not really sturdy. When you take the walking foot off check to see if the foot is actually in its little holes as this has happened to me when I was trying to get the arm over the screw.

It doesn't look square to me either. The white plastic case looks out of whack. The case snaps onto the presser foot. You might see if you could snap it into square. Nah, I'd send it back.

It does not look correct to me either. The foot should be square to the machine and the moving feet on both sides should line up directly on top of the feed dogs. They should also move at exactly the same speed and distance as the feed dogs.

Most walking feet have a "fork" that hooks around the needle tightening screw. The only walking foot I have seen like this, with a bar that goes on top of the screw instead of around it, was for a Janome. I think all of the generic feet I have seen have the fork, as does my Bernina walking foot.

Someone mentioned there is a way to adjust the spring in a darning foot, but I don't know how to do it. If you cannot manually move the foot up and down on the spring, it seems to me the spring must be broken. I can push mine up, and it will "spring" back to its original position.
