Question for all the Bow Tuckers!
 

What changes have you made to the pattern or what have you done to simplify any of the steps. Did you change any of the measurements?

I make the handles by folding in 1 1/4 inch on each side and then lay a 2 1/2 inch strip of fusible down the middle, fold it back in and then sew 4 lines of stitching down the sides and middle. Makes the handle not so puffy and hard to fold.

I add magnetic snaps to my bow tuck bags but I also use the button and loop.

I also use the magnetic snaps, but eliminate the button and loop. I cut my handles 5 inches wide. Fold in half wrong sides together. Open and then fold each side in to the middle fold. Place a webbed strap (1 inch wide) under one of the folds, fold back to 1.25 inches wide, then sew three equal lines to hold strap together. I also like to sew the pocket into the seam when sewing the top front of the bag to the bottom front. It makes a much neater placement.

Good idea about the pocket. I want to add piping to that seam line. I've been in a frenzy trying to get some ready to sell. Need all the good ideas I can get. Have you used anything but the 987F for batting? I would like them a little less puffy but still want them to stand up.

Instead of fabric inner pockets, I use the "tablecloth" plastic from walmart. I finish the top edge with fabric bias tape. It is easier to see what is inside the pockets. I washed mine in the washer and tossed it in the dryer and all came out okay.

I ran the handles alongside the pocket and stitched them down when I sewed on the pocket. To me they are more sturdy than just attaching them at the top...also you don't have to sew them into the seam when doing the lining.

I make the handles using belting or strapping. just cover it. lasts lots longer and stronger. I also make the handles or straps a little longer. My first one, I pre quilted every piece. I think most folks, if using fusable batting, skip that stage and saves lots of time. but I really liked the quilting on it too.
