Okay, so I have both the large and small size twister tools and am going to make the larger size using 10" squares with 30's reproduction fabrics. I've seen a lot of twister quilts here and they are all beautiful. My question is: when you sew the squares together prior to using the tool, is there a specific plan that you follow to get a good mixture?
Like how the DP9 might have a solid in the 9patch center. I don't want all of my pinwheels to just run together. Any good tips you can offer from your experiences would certainly be appreciated. Thanks. |

I agree with np3.

Just make sure that there is contrast. If your squares don't blend into each other, your pinwheels will not either. Please post pics when you're done with it!

Try to avoid putting the same color blocks around the edge that your border will be. Keep the contrast.

And then work on cutting and sewing one row at a time. It's very easy to get the cut squares twisted in the wrong direction!!!

and be sure to put a "garage sale" tag on each one numbered 1 to ? so that after they are cut out, you will remember what order they go back in. I have even used arrows to indicate which end is up!

Thanks for the great tips. I'm generally not into the 30's stuff too much but was given a great grouping of fabrics from a friend so decided to give the large Twister a try. I was most worried about the blocks blending into each other. So I decided to order some "reads solids" fabrics from Connecting Threads sale to add to my 30's prints. I think it's going to be a great quilt when it gets done. I will be sure to post it.
