I bought a beautiful jelly roll from a quilt shop in Wythelville Virginia on my "sisters weekend" in Sptember. It is Moda's Laurel. I think that it is discontinued. When I opened the jelly roll this week to look at the fabrics, I was pleased with the beautiful patterns! BUT...some of the strips have a printed selvage end. What a disappointment. It seems to me that it defeats the ease of working with precut fabrics. What do I do now? Please give me your advice.

You mean on the very ends? All of my strips have them, they are cut selvedge to selvedge, just like you would do :D:D:D

I would let the shop know. It the roll came directly from Moda, maybe
the shop can give you their contact information. |
The Jelly rolls are cut selvedge to selvedge so you get the full width of fabric, I just cut off the selvedge bit and used it.

Jelly rolls are usually cut across the width of the fabric, so there would naturally be selvages on each end - if your jelly rolls have been cut on the lengthwise of the fabric and the selvage runs for the whole length I'd be pretty unhappy too. Can you contact the shop where you purchased it?

So basically, should I then cut off all of the strips so that they are the same length? I hope that I don't sound stupid. It's just that when I use charm packs, they are all ready to use and I thought that it would be the same with the Jelly Roll.

What are you making? if your making the strip quilt seen on this site, just trim the ends.

It depends on the pattern whether I cut them off first or not.
