Question on quilting a purse.
 

I know this should be obvious, but I am not sure. I would like to quilt a design to the front of the purse I am making. Do I use a batting on the back or do I use the fusible fleece that is suppose to attach to the lining? If I used both batting and the fleece, would it be too bulky? What about using very stiff non-fusible interfacing, left over from my other sewing life for the back of the quilted part? This is for a gift, so I can't afford to screw it up, and I don't have time to experiment on something else. Thanks for your help.

I have quilted some bags that I have made. I quilted the fusible fleece. Using fusible fleece and batting would be to bulky, and it would make it very hard to sew all the together. I hope this helps!!!!!!!

I use scraps of regular quilt batting in most of my quilted bags. If the only place you are going to quilt is the motif on the front this would not work well, in which case I believe fusable would be you best bet.

Use the fusible fleece on all your outside pieces. You can quilt through it without any problems. If the bag isn't firm enough for you then you can use a lighter weight iron on interfacing on the lining pieces. Be sure and show us a picture when you are finished

I like fusible (or non-fusible) fleece for bags. It has a little more body than regular batting. I usually quilt them through the outside fabric and the fleece, then finish assembling and lining the bag. That way I can quilt on the pieces first, trim them to size, and go on from there.

I use fusible fleece, fused to the main body of the bag, and then quilt it. I don't sew the lining in until all quilting is done, otherwise you'll quilt all your pockets shut. It's not pretty, lol.
