Question re Lap Quilt Size for a Taller Person

Would 56 x 80 be a strange size for a lap quilt? It's for my 5' 10" DGD. Is that too skinny for the length? It's currently at 56 x 72 but I think it should be longer for a taller person. I have enough blocks to add a row in length but not enough to make it wider and not enough scraps to make more blocks. The pattern doesn't lend itself to borders.

Here's the design if you'd like to take a look.

Tall people, I'd appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks in advance for your input.

For a lap quilt, 72 inches is long enough. However, an additional row would give her more that she could tuck under her feet.

A lap quilt should be whatever size you want it to be. A tall person would definitely need a longer one while a shorter person could use a standard size - whatever that is. Make the quilt to fit the person not a standard for someone else.

i don't think that's a strange size at all- or too narrow - at least i hope not- the celtic dragonfly quilt i posted last week is 48" x 82"----she wanted a 'long- throw' so that's where it wound up- make it the way YOU like it! it is your project- and quilts come in all shapes & sizes.

I am 5' 10", and I sometimes take a nap under a Linus fleece blanket when I finish it. It is about the size you have now and fits fine. It doesn't need to be any longer for me. However, if you want it to be useful as bedding, I think it should be at minimum 60 x 80.

I am 5' 10" also and just finishing a lap quilt for a 6' 4" nephew. I think your measurements are fine. Make it for the recipient.

My husband and his 3 kids are all 6'5" or taller -- all of their lapquilts and quillows are made super duper long for their extra length limbs. (Not wider, just longer). They all appreciate that extra!

I'd go for more length, so your granddaughter can tuck her feet under is she wants!

If she's thin, that would be a great 'couch quilt'

I'm short - and I like a quilt long enough to go over my feet AND sometimes over my head, too.

My regular lap quilts are not long enough to tuck under my feet and go to my shoulders so I think your size is perfect for anyone. I'm not tall either.
