when top quilting an applique do you quilt right over it or do you go around it? Stupid question I know? But.

I like the look better when it is quilted around the applique.

I have seen it both ways, so however you like it!

It's not stupid. It's whatever you prefer. For me, it depends on the piece.

I prefer to go around the appliquw. It makes the applique "puff" up a little.

If my applique needs enhancing or details, I will quilt in the applique. Otherwise, I quilt around it. If I want to quilt a panto on an appliqued quilt, I will make adjustments and still quilt around the applique. In other words, I never quilt OVER an applique. I might quilt IN the applique as mentioned above. Sorry if I'm confusing you. I know what I'm trying to say, it just doesn't always come out right.

Usually around it. Applique pieces seem to pop and look so pretty. The quilting enhances it to me.
