Is the stack and whack and the kaleidoscope templet the same thing?

I really don't think so!

Here is a link to kaleidoscope pattern. http://www.robertkaufman.com/quiltin...doscope_quilt/

Notice it is made of 8 pieces and they alternate between two fabrics or designs. The stack n whack is made up of identical pieces.

The Stack&Whack and OneBlockWonder templates are the same.

Both methods create a sort of kaleidoscope effect with the fussy cut fabrics, most often resulting in an octagon or hexagon shape. But it could also be done creating squares and triangles, actually any shape - as long as the subunits making the shape have the same part of the fabric print on them.

The difference is the S&W sometimes uses a 2nd plainer fabric to set off the shape.

There's also the kaleidoscope block
http://tlc.howstuffworks.com/home/ka...uilt-block.htm
which can be made from fussy cut fabrics as well, but is usually pieced without the repeat fabrics in the eight 45 degree angle pieces.

And then you come to what I consider the coolest kaleidoscope quilts - those of Paula Naderstern, which really do mimic the bi-lateral symmetrical images you see reflected in a real kaleidoscope.

I made one of these - there isn't one template, there could be thousand of pieces and a ton of fabrics used to created the images.

OBW has 6 pieces to each block, S&W can have more or less pieces depending on the pattern
Kaleidoscope blocks can have more or less pieces than a S&W.
There are a lot of different patterns for a S&W, I have seen as few as 3 and as many as 10 for each block :D:D:D
