This quilt broke my heart!
A few months ago a woman in our community asked me to make a quilt from her grown children's baby cloths. She wanted to give it to her mother for Christmas. So I've been working every free moment on this quilt to get it done for her by Christmas. It was very difficult for me to cut up these beautiful dresses and little suits but I did it. Used embellishments on it - buttons and lace from the dresses and suits. I got the top done and was waiting for the backing fabric that she wanted to pick out. She brought the fabric and another baby blanket she wanted me to add to the quilt. When I told her the top was done she broke down and said it was from her first son that passed away 22 years ago and she has slept with that blanket under her pillow. She said it was very important to add this to the quilt so I told her I would make a separate block on the back. Getting up the nerve to cut that blanket was hard - emotionally. I reinforced the cutting edge and zigzagged so the rest of the blanket wouldn't unravel. Never knew making the quilt was going to be so emotional.

Oh what a story. I can just imagine how that quilt has become so special for you as well as the lady concerned.
|
Bless you for doing this. I'm sure the recipient will cherish this quilt as well as the requester.

She was so emotional she couldn't tell you at the beginning about the quilt that had to do with her son so you could have added it then. I understand it took her time to build herself up to tell you about it. You are so kind to go ahead and cut into your beautiful quilt and add that blanket. You are very thoughtful and generous. Good things will come to you.

Bless your dear heart. We all understand and it would have been hard for any of us. Memory quilts have to be very difficult. So much heart goes into them.

The special blessings of the Christmas season always thrill me; every year never fails to bring some unexpected ones.
May you be blessed as the owner of this quilt will be by your labor of love. Jan in VA |

Beautiful story....illustrates perfectly, there's more to quilting than cutting up bits of fabric and sewing them together. Quilting is a tangible expression of love, compassion and memories. Thank you.

Your story Most deffinately pulls on the heart stings. How honored you must feel to create what will be a family heirloom. With no doubt the quilt will hold many memories for the mother who will receive the quilt made from the lives of her grandchildren. God Bless you for your labors that were preformed with much love & respect.

God Bless you.I know it was hard making the quilt. On May 16 the day after my sister turned 56 she was told she had cancer-I made her a quilt and told her I couldn't be with her through her chemo treatments but to hang onto the corner and know I was with her, and I also made her badanas from my whole fabric stash and cried every stitch. Well she got worst and they called and told us to come to the hospital in Richmond,Va at St.Marys. I had never seen a cancer patient only tv and on commercials and Lord was I stunned. It blew my mind and still bothers me to this day. She asked for her blanket and her husband brought it to the hospital and he said she was hanging onto the corner with one hand and holding his with the other when she passed awayJuly 25,2012. He ask me what I wanted him to do with the quilt and I said bury it with her and he did. Every night I go outside and look up at the sky and I talk to her and I tell her I love her and miss her so much.I hope you have a Blessed Christmas and I know the Lord will bless you-you have a heart of gold. God Bless
