Quilt Design Software
Which Quilt Design Software do you like the most? I am looking at the options and the EQ7 looks the most popular but I want to make sure that I don't purchase something so expensive and regret it later.
I design all of my own quilts at this point and just use graph paper and a quilters companion handbook that helps me determine yardage. I am looking for something that I can create my own blocks and then print them out on foundation paper. I would also like it if I could quickly figure out yardage instead of doing all the math myself (yes I'm being lazy). Yael |
Ironic that I saw your post just now. I had just googled for free design software, and I also went to the Electric Quilters website and looked around. We'll see what others have to say.

In EQ7 I can create and print out foundation blocks and also gives the yardage needed. I'm sure other programs do this too and other people will chime in with their experiences. EQ5 or 6 also have this feature.

I have EQ7 and I love it!
|
I use EQ7 all the time. I also have Quilt Design Wizard, but I haven't used it in years because EQ is so much more powerful. Even with EQ, I often use a spread sheet to calculate yardage. That way I know it's right, and know how much extra is being calculated.

i started with EQ5 when it came out. i've never regretted it. i use it constantly.
|
Is there a place to find EQ7 that has a best price? I suppose if I Google EQ7 it will give me sites that tell what it offers.
|
It looks like everywhere is pretty much a set price. If I get it I'm going to get it from amazon with free prime shipping.

EQ7 does everything you are looking for and a lot more. I have had mine for more than a year and just started taking classes and OMG i love it and i even bought this week the new EQ stitch plug in to be used with EQ7 which will enable me to digitize my own designs (quilting and embroidery and applique). I honestly don't think it can get any better ;-)

I know nothing about the other software but I know that EQ7 is amazing and that for many reasons.
1) It's so powerful, there is nothing you cannot do. It does everything you mentionned you wanted to do. 2) Easy to learn because Fran Gonzalez of Quilt University gives 3 courses of different level. 3) The Help in the software itself is very well made 4) The technical support online answers your question promply 5) The different libraries (block, layout, fabric, etc) are very complete On that website page you can play the videos and get a very good idea of the sotware. http://doyoueq.com/lessons_categories/video/ |
