Quilt Hoop versus Embroidery Hoop - what is the difference?
 

Thought these 2 objects were the same...now I dimly remember someone saying they are not the same, but I don't know why. Please shed some light on differences, if any.

A quilting hoop is deeper and is made of heavier/thicker wood in order to hold a heavy quilt without breaking. Quilting hoops come in sizes 10 - 20 inches in diameter. There are also square hoops. Round hoop is easier to maneuver in your lap while a square gives you a larger area to quilt on. It's a personal preference. I have a round hoop for my lap and a square hoop in a floor stand. Measure from the inside of your elbow to you cupped hand -- that is the size you should use. That way your hands can reach all areas of the hoop. I use a 14 inch.
