Quilt marking question
 

I have a small wallhanging that I am hand quilting. I marked the lines with a silver quilt marking pencil. A lot of the pencil has worn off the finished sections as I have moved on to work on other sections. What is the best way to get off the rest of the pencil markings? The piece is fusible raw-edge applique with a line of quilting around each applique. I am a little afraid to soak it because of the fusible appliques. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help!

gently with the white fabric eraser and/or a pink pearl rubber eraser. The silver pencil has wax in it and needs to be erased gently.

I would have used a Blue Be Gone marker instead of pencils. I never had any success with them. All you have to do is mist the quilt and the Blue marking does disappear. NEVER NEVER use the blue powder chalk from Clover. IT DOESN'T COME OFF !!!

Yellow Clover chalk can dye your thread...it did mine on my tablerunner, so the quilting is now a pale yellow....ARGHH. I agree with the blue water erasable pen. It is my favorite to use on any light fabric.

Anybody have suggestions how to remove blue ink when it is on a white piece? I have sprayed it with water several times and it appears to be gone. But when it dries it is all over in the fabric, not just the lines that I originally marked. I have even tried to blot them out with a wet rag. I hope someone here has a suggestion.

you need to wash the piece. the blue has migrated into the fabric and will be there until completely removed with washing.

I used the purple air dry marker on a quilt border and it did not come out after several days. Is there a way to remove it? I tried a damp cloth on a small section and that seems to have made it more visible. Will it get worse if I wash it? I'm sure someone has had this problem before so look for your good advice before I make things worse. :thumbdown:

I'm having a proglem using the orange chalk on light green fabric. I think I have it out of the fabric (rubbed it with scraps of batting). Looks like it's still in the thread. I'm going to work on rubbing it out more and then use a Tide pen before I wash it. All that colored chalk is in the trash now.
I've used the purple air dry marker on white - it took well over a week to disappear! But it's gone completely and never came back.

I would try 90% isopropyl alcohol on the purple and blue inks. The alcohol removes permanent marker, the washable markers should be no trouble.

Consider this product called Sew Clean, Spot and Stain Remover sold by Bear Thread Designs. Google that and there are a couple web sites selling it. It is gentle and yet remove stains such as ball point ink and so on. I have used it with success.
