A tiny quilt.

Karen--Go to Search in this board and type in "inchie". You will find more info. I would consider it a collage that's recut into small (inch) pieces and then finished off with an edging. Good luck--think I might give it a try myself later this fall. Good luck

its a series of 1 inch quilts that are hung in a grouping to form the image of 1 large quilt without being sewn together.

at our local guild show a woman made a 6 foot inchie that was her orange tabby cat with green eyes.

each individual inchie quilt was the orange or green then she hung all of the inches onto a cream back drop cloth that formed the cream stripes in the tabby cat pattern.

when you were standing right next to the quilt you really couldn't make out the design (it just looked interesting) but when you back away a few feet the design just jump out as if the cat was going to spring into action.

it was truly spectacular sadly she would not allow anyone to take a pic.

I've never heard of inchies being all joined together before. Interesting idea. I've always considered them self contained works of art, not as pieces of something larger.

I first learned about them in Quilting Arts magazine (Aug/Sept 2007) and trade them, like fabric postcards and artist trading cards, or use them as embellishment on larger pieces, zipper pulls, shade pulls, light chains, that kind of thing. Here's a link to the original QA article by Normajean Brevik http://www.quiltingarts.com/cpsmag/BrevikPDF.pdf

they are pieced together.

they are individual one each quilts that she made and when she hung the thousands of 1 inch quilts near each other they formed an image.

you aren't required to make just random one inch quilts most inchies are part of a group whether its an abstract or image grouping.

I'd go blind stitching those little quilts.

Isn't it wonderful that, as artists, we can each do our own thing, in our own way, to our own liking. :D
