My quilting is going on a quilt retreat, but i've never been, sounds kinda like a sleep over . any opinions. mostly can't think any quilting gets done .

I have been to 4 with another forum, and they are great. We bring projects to work on and completed quilts for show and tell, eat, play games, share tips, eat, sew, sleep, eat. I did get 4 tops put together this year, so I'm happy with that.

I have been on lots (mind you its a great place, very popular & so these are repeat visits to the same retreat) I can highly recommend them - I always go prepared with at least 4 projects (UFO's) or stuff cut & ready to sew for my few days away.
Don't waste precious retreat time measuring & reading patterns to cut blocks out while youre there - often too hard if space is at a premium, plus easy to become distracted. But - its great to have others to bounce ideas off, check out their current projects; relax & be pampered with yummy meals prepared for us, catch up with friends from the last one - & such a great feeling to be unpacking at home, things finished that have been sitting in a pattern box/project box here at home for months.
Have fun !!

Do you take your own machine's?? Obviously, I've never been to a retreat :)

Oh retreats are fun! Like one huge pajama party with sewing machines! You bounce ideas and suggestions off each other, meet new friends at times and get lots of sewing done. Lots of good food .....So much fun!

Most ones I go to you take your machine.Sometimes they are provided like if you have to fly there or it is sponsered by viking or another sewing machine company. Tell the person in charge it is your first one and ask them what to expect. If they want you to come back they will give you lots of information...

I love the retreat I go to every year in the midwest. I have to fly out every year, which is hard as I love to travel and would prefer to drive. anyways, the group of ladies (and sometimes gentleman) meet each year and have fun. I don't bring a machine, but the others that drive to the retreat try to bring extra machines for those that don't bring one. I would highly recommend trying it out. Lots of fun, laughter, memories and you get to meet new quilting friends.

I can't wait to go on a retreat. I've gone on scrapbooking weekends before and they are fun. We get a lot done, but also a lot of feminine therapy, eating , drinking , and talking.
I'm sure a quilting retreat is similar.
Next weekend I'm joining the ladies in my guild for an all day "Quilt 'til you wilt" day. I'm parking my kid at grandma's for the weekend.! :-)

I haven't been on a retreat yet, but they sure sound like fun. I was looking at the one that they have in Danville, Illinois. Has anyone been there?
