Have you made a sweatshirt jacket? It's something that I think I would like to do and would like to see your projects or hear 'success' stories. I want to make the jacket fit...not be baggy and to look stylish. A few years ago I saw a pattern system that looked quite interesting....hoping I saved info...waiting to hear from you! Thanks, Connie

Oh yes, I have made one and I wear it all the time. I have had at least one person, every time I wear it, ask about it. THey oohh and ahhhh over it. I had one lady tell me that I should sell them hahaha. Mine is pretty scrappy looking. I used pink for the most of it. It was not that hard to do either. I followed one of the Tutorias that is posted on this board. She did a great job writing the steps out and taking pictures to go along with those steps.

Gorgeous! I've been wanting to make one, but doubt my sewing abilities.

I had one my sister inlaw made that was binded and pockets with already quilted material. It was a favorite. I wore it totally out. Great gift idea. Can use up a lot of scraps this way. Thanks

Blessings, Ruth

Bless your heart!! I've lost a bunch of weight and have nothing to wear (seriously). Hate to buy more until things stablize . . . but this I could afford AND do some stash busting!! Love the pics!

Becky, me too! I've lost 90 pounds on Weight Watchers and was going broke buying new clothes. Enter 'thrift store shopping'. I have found some really nice clothes for little money. I buy them, wear them until they don't fit anymore and then donate them back to be re-sold! It's a win-win. But a sweatshirt jacket would be really fun and I have enough stash to make dozens!

Peggy

Look under the tutorials sections. There are instructions and beautiful examples!

darlin121 12-01-2010 01:00 PM

Love the colors in yours Lori and Wendy that is soooo pretty! Makes me want to try one. I think I'll go look up the tutorial for it. One more thing on my to-do list!

baglady65 12-01-2010 04:15 PM

Another thing to decorate is demin shirts I have done a few with embroidery on them!

I bought a pattern at my LQS but the directions sound somewhat complicated and I have put it off (like so many things I should do) -- but your mentioning this has inspired me to at least look at the pattern and the ones on this site --I really like the pix of the ones I have seen -- maybe after Christmas....

I've made only one, and really enjoy it. The next time I make one I'll use the outside of the sweatshirt as the inside of the jacket, so it'll be easier to slide on over shirt sleeves, etc...and the lining won't continually 'pilll' as the one I have now, is doing.

Oh now that's a great idea! That would never have occured to me, thanks!

I plan on just sew and fold.I don't know what ribbing to take off.Maybe all of it.

luvspaper 12-02-2010 11:57 AM

I made a red/white/black one last winter. The directions stated to get a sweatshirt one size larger than normal because of the shrinkage due to quilting. However, mine came out HUGE....so I had to cut it down more than expected.

I love mine and hope to do another one some day soon!

And yes, I used the outside of the sweatshirt as the inside of the jacket...rather than the fleecey part. I also took off all of the ribbing and bound the whole thing in the end. I wish I would have made at least one pocket for my cell!

deanmauldin 12-02-2010 04:36 PM

I made one for my DIL about four years ago. I put binding all around the bottom, sleeves and front,I used a cat fabric for all the applique and covered the buttons with kitten heads, and made loops for the buttons. she really liked it and received a lot of compliments at work

wildyard 12-02-2010 07:30 PM

I have an applique, iron on kind I think, sunflowers with ribbons, that is to go around the neck and down the front of a sweatshirt turned jacket. It is listed for sale in the classifieds if anyone is interested in looking at it. Smilessssssss.... http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-79327-1.htm
scroll down till you find it.

Here is my sweatshirt jacket. I must have been a floozy in a former life, because I love glitz and bling. You may not be able to tell from the picture, but I added sparkly fabrics, plus fun fur yar and several embellishments. I received a blue ribbon on it at the county fair, and will teach a class after the first of the year.

I've made lots of different style sweatshirt jackets for gifts but never thought to take pics. Here's a few I kept and are well worn as I made them all 3 to 5 years ago. I will have to post them in a couple of tries as I have several photos. And, sorry for quality of photos.
