Has anyone used this is it worth getting for the road trip that I am taking through oregon california and such?

There are alot of board members that live on the I-5 corridor if that is the area you are talking about. You could always ask for reccomendations if you let us know your route :wink:

Well we are going more then there, we are going home to Oregon so we can pick up hubbies boat. We are then meandering are way to missouri, via oregon, california, grand canyon, and texas.

I am starting to plan our move/road trip for next may time frame. But seeing as we are in Hawaii and I am obsessive when it come to vacations and moving I am allready starting to pack.

It seems far away but I am leaving for almost a month and half, DH gets back from Iraq around christmas, then we need to ship one of the cars in march time frame get the movers to come and clear post. So really with all I have to do at work it is not that far away. :)

Or I could be just a crazy obsesser about my vacations.

I've used them in years past. I like them because I can plan on seeing the shops ahead of time instead of trying to look up shops in the phone book. I use them as reference too.

However, the phone book will also list shops that are not in the quilters book. If it were up to me, I'd make it mandatory that all quilt shops be listed in one book that we all could get.

But then half the fun is discovering some of these hidden gems off the beaten path.

Well!!! Lucky you!!! Covering that much ground you may want to purchase the guide. You could also repost your question specifically asking for shops in the states you are passing though and then check out your responses. Something like, "Help locating quilt shops in: Or roadtrip planned need help finding LQS......." We have enough members you should get a lot of feedback!! There has to be hundred of shops on your journey, envy....I am so envious :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen:

I have considered buying this book in my area but i really don't do much shop hopping so I have not made the investment. I maybe should have gotten the one that was on sale for half price last year that was out of date, but didn't.

I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, so if you want a list of LQS's I can help you out. Also, if there are other things you like to do, let me know and I'll fill you on what's big here. E.G. Museums, music, theater, shopping, etc.

My friend and I used this book to go from Fl to NC. It was wonderful and we found fabric stores we never would have found. Tell them you found them in the book as they have to pay to be put in there.

Another method is to put fabric stores in your GPS If you have the kind that will do this. They will list them and give you the phone number so you can call for hours and times of openings.

My DH and I just got home from traveling 5,000 miles. My Quilters Travel Companion is the FIRST thing I pack every time we take a trip. Don't remember how many shops we visited but I 'don't leave home without it'.
Before every trip I also go to their web site and put in each state we will be going through to update the book. If a shop has closed or has a new address it will give that info & I just jot it in the ad. The cheapest place I have seen it sell is in the Chlotilde catalog. Sounds like a wonderful trip; have fun & buy lots of fabric!!

I copy the pages of places I plan to visit. makes it much easier to carry. Well worth the price. If you are near McMinnville, OR, be sure and visit the HUGE shop there!

The travel book is an awesome resource for shops in no matter what state you are traveling to. The only thing I suggest for sure, would be to call the shop you plan to visit before going to make sure they are still open, especially in this economy; there are a lot of shops that have closed.

Of course, not all shops are listed in this book because they may not want to pay to advertise their shop, but there are a lot in there. You could also go online, do a google search for quilt shops in "state", you should get a list of shops in that state. Good luck and have fun shopping.

When ever we travel I google the area we will be in and find shops that way. Last year DH found one for me while I was asleep and he even did a u-turn after waking me up. It was a great shop and I spents lots of money. We went a different way then we planned, so were just lucky to find that store. And...it sure is interesting to see how shops in the same area have completely different fabrics.
