Quilting with Cross Stitched Panels
Good morning everyone!
I have a new project and need your help... a friend has asked me to make a quilt out of several cross-stitched panels she made. I've quilted for about fifteen years, but this is the first time I've incorporated Aida (cross-stitch fabric) into a quilt. Do any of you have ideas/suggestions/info about this? Should each panel be reinforced? Or will the actual quilting be sufficient? Thanks so much for your help! |
my thinking is that the actual quilting should be sufficient. You may want to make a larger seam allowance for your state of mind. Also, you may want to zigzag stitch the edges (aka seam allowance) on the Aida. Further assurance for you.

You also might want to stay stitch the edges of the Aide panels--zigzag or straight--before piecing/joining.
|
I would also use a smaller stitch than normal when sewing the Aida.

Thanks I have some I would like to make into a quilt. I thought of putting a very lightweight fabric behind the cross stitch squares, to keep the poly batting from coming through. Don't know when I will make it.

Thanks to everyone for your advice! I'll try to post pictures when it's done.
