Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has a pattern for a folded fabric pineapple or log cabin block?
Thanks!!!!! |

Is that what you are looking for? |
i think i know what she wants, but i dont have a pattern for it. Instead of sewing the strips together, the strips are folded in half lengthwise, and sewn on the raw edge, and the fold gives it a 3 dimensional look

Hi Cathe, thanks for getting back to me so quickly, however, what Barb M posted is the idea; the folded fabric definately gives it a 3D look. Although I like the website you referred me to! :D

Yes, Barb, you know what I mean, thanks!

Maria I have seen one and have it in my mind to complete it. I was amazed by the texture, it was the log cabin.
Do you think it would be paper pieced or sewn on muslin, it needs a foundation. I am thinking if you had the lines on muslin as guides for the placement. I might have to go play with it while you have me thinking about it again. I have fabric I bought 8 months ago just for it. This web site has the pillow made with folded fabric: http://www.patchworks.com/patterns.htm |
Foldy Stuff by Donna Poster! I took a class from her at Quilt Market one year. (On a different topic)

Guess what came in the mail yesterday!!!! You guessed correct!!! The foldy fabric patterns I got off E-bay! woootttt woooooo
So I played a little . I didn't want to mess up the patterns since I have plans for them elsewhere. So I made my own pattern by studying theres. I made a SUPER Simple log cabin block! It took me about 2 hours ..ONLY because the natives in my house needed FOOD! My block is 6 by 6 and I did it on graph paper! Take a LOOK! |

Dawn,
Curiosity is getting to me. When or how do you stitch this all down? Do you sew each piece as in paper piecing or do you just tack each piece in place?Years ago I did a small wall hanging with folded fabric and we just tacked the pieces in place. I don't think that would work for a quilt. I just ordered a book on iris folding which is basically what your doing but with paper instead. I'm hoping it's something I can adapt. I was surprised as to how many books on iris folding Amazon has. Wow! A real treasure trove! |

Dawn, that is beautiful!!

Hi Dawn, that looks AWESOME! I love the fabrics, did you use graph paper as your base? Is each "log" stiched as you go? Thanks for sharing!

I did this technique over a dozen years ago with a pineapple block. I loved it and it was a fun technique. I'm not sure why I haven't done it since. You know, I have a couple of secret sisters and this would be a great technique to use to whip up something for each of them. Good thing they aren't on this forum or I'd be in trouble.
Dawn, those blocks look great! ~Tiffany |
I bought the patterns for the foldy stuff a few years ago and bring them out everytime I think about doing another quilt. I need to quit thinking about it and actually do it. Great dimensional effects.
