Quilting in the hoop on the embroidery machine

1 Attachment(s)
I found a pattern for a really cute little zipper bag that is all done in the hoop on my Brother 2800D.

These come out to about 4 x 6 when using the 5 x7 hoop.

You only have to hoop the back and do the stipple quilting (pre-programed) and then hoop the front sections (really easy directions to follow). It puts the zipper in and everything. No other machine needed for sewing.

It was a free pattern off sewforum.com in the free embroidery section. These little quilted bags will be great door prizes at our next Strippers & Hookers Strip Bingo night.

I would like to try and quilt something bigger on my machine but found hooping to be a major issue even using the 6 x 10 size hoop. Does anyone else quilt with their embroidery machine? Any suggestions or guidance?

Thanks

I also learned how to make one in the hoop w/zipper this past year. The place where I bought my machine has classes and its free if you buy your machine from them. Mine coin purse was different but same concept. Hooping can be a problem. Check out the tutorials on emblibrary.com along with their projects to get tips on doing it. One little trick that I learned on my own was when the stablizer barely fits I use the painters blue tape and run it along the side of the stablizer and it helps hold it to the hoop. You should check your area to see if there are any classes offered. Most places don't care what machine you have for you to participate; they don't here. You can do a search on here and on google and get more info on embroidery and I know that yahoo has some groops. I hope this helps you and have fun. You did a great job

I quilt with my embroidery machine all the time. You can buy the quilting designs from a number of different companies...one good one is Embroidery Library. I use my 150x150 hoop mostly. It's considered a quilting hoop and it has 2 "inner rings"..one for light weight and one for heavy weight. When quilting the "sandwich" I use the heavy weight "inner ring". I have a Husqvarna Viking SE and it works really well this way.
Good Luck, Drue

She has items for all hoop sizes.

Another good place for quilting blocks in your hoop is:
