There are so many mag available between direct mail and at the stores. Do you have a favorite? I cannot decide if i want to keep subscribing because it seem to me that most are filled with ads. Do you feel the same?

Yes, although I have not subscribed yet. I pick one up here and there to see which is the best to subscribe to. I am a beginner so some of the patterns are way beyond me.

We do not have very many stores in our immediate area that carry the quilting mags anymore, except Barnes and Noble. Even the Newspaper and Mag stores have stopped carrying them. I was surprised to find out the the LQS don't carry them either. I thought at least they would, but most of their customers probably alread subscribe.

I am waiting for answers to which ones are the best!

I like Quiltmaker and Quilter's Home. Just subscribed to a new one for me: BHG Quilting, I think it's called. My Dad gets me Quilting Arts each year for Christmas. I used to get Fons and Porter's and Quilter's Newsletter.
One thing I really like about Quiltmaker is that they highlight handwork as well as machine work - hand embroidery. Four magazines is pretty extravagant for me but DH found discounts on the internet to order two of them for me. I so look forward to them coming each time - and two of them come on a different cycle than the other two so that's good, as well.

I read any that I can get my hand on! I look at garage sales, thrift stores, ect. though....love the old ones, they never really go out of style, just the fabrics change. I used to love Quilters Home when Mark Lipinski was there, I loved how funny hewas, included his pets, but I didnt even renew that when my subscription ran out.

I recently started getting Quilt magazine..
http://www.quiltmag.com/

I have only gotten 2 issues. The first issue there is NOTHING in it I would make - nothing... this last issue there is a fish quilt that I want to make for my mother :) There are a few other possibilities.

I am not completely blown away over the magazine but it's nice. I am always eyeballing Quilts & More but I haven't subscribed yet - I like to try and wait for a special that I can't refuse before I get a magazine - there are just too many patterns I already want to make let alone see more to add to the list!!

I'm like CarrieAnne in that I go to garage/yard sales, estate sales, church bazaars. The patterns are still useable, but the fabrics have changed over the years..

I got tired of all of the ads and the expense, and didn't renew any of mine. I find magazines, books, patterns at yard sales, etc... and buy a few new here and there... and spend the money I save on fabric :D:D:D

I do not subscribe to any mags I get them all on loan from my local library and if I find any patterns I like I photocopy them and put them into my file for later. Or i buy from trade me in pile lots or from garage sales, I always pass them on once I have copied the patterns I want from them.

Quilters Home, Quilters Newsletter are the one's I buy. I always look thru them first to see if it's worth buying. After all, thats giving up a yard or so of fabric when your on ss retirement. I have lots I need to give away.

I get Quiltmaker and Quilter's World. They seem to have the most patterns I want to make.
