Quilting with Minky
 

I want to put together a quick baby quilt (single piece of cotton fabric front side, Minky on the back), but have a couple questions about the actual quilting. Will the actual quilting show on the Minky side? Can I use liquid glue to baste the sandwich? Is normal cotton fabric the best for binding? I know it seems like I've asked a lot of questions lately, but I am trying desperately to finish several projects before baby arrives anyday and have no time to be making silly mistakes. I did single piece of cotton fabric front side, Minky on the back - with zero batting. Then tried FMQ....big mistake for me. If I would do it over again I think I would use a ultra lite batting and a hatch design....but that is just me.

I've done about 10 quilts with mini on the back. Quilting shows a lot on the back.i quilted them on a frame. You need to keep the stretch between the rollers not side to side. I use w&n batting. It comes out very nice.

yes, the quilting will show and shows beautifully - we have a long armer in our guild who loves quilting on minkee. The key will be to keep it under some tension so the fabric doesn't slide around - I think basting spray would be better than the liquid glue since it will cover more of the surface. I also think that while you could use no "batting" at all, a thin layer like flannel would help as a third layer.

I couldn't get past cutting Minkee! What a mess it makes. Don't think I'll be using it for anything again.

Personally, I would not use liquid glue on minky. I do and have used basting spray. I don't use any batting, the minky is warm enough, I think. Yes, the stitching shows, but I think differently than with cotton but I do like it; it's a more subtle look.
