What is the trick to keeping invisible thread from breaking when you are machine quilting?

I have the same issue. Now did have better luck with the Sulky brand. I now use regualr thread - either Gutterman or Sulky and never have that breaking issue.

Use your upright position on the thread holder...If it's down on it side reg position it tangles...and breaks...

I have always used YLI Wonder invisible & never have a problem. However, my thread was purchased more than 10 yrs. ago. I don't know if quality of newly purchased thread has deminished as it seems to be happening with everything else new.

I found buying better brands help. I started out using the cheap ones, & man, what a mess. I only use it on top too, use your regular thread in the bobbin.... I know some machines just don't like it period, so I have heard others mention, so good luck with it...

Use the upright spool holder that sits beside your machine and then set your tension to about 2.5. You can't leave the tension on as tight as normal. Also, when you are using it in the bobbin...do not load the bobbin at a fast speed. I hold my hand on the spool to slow the turning...going really fast stretches the thread and makes it tangle as it is coming back off as you are sewing.

Always buy the better quality...not the cheap stuff.

Use a cone thread holder and put it further away from the machine than regular thread , it needs to Un-wind itself/relax a bit before it goes through the machine. I use a smaller size needle, reduce the tension( every machine will react a bit different , depending on who made the thread, most require a reduced tension). I had one spool I had to put the cone holder and thread about 3 ft away on the floor and used a second cone holder just before the machine to guide it before I could get it to relax and not constantly wrapping around everthing it came in contact with. Needless to say I never bought invisable thread from this major chain store with the 40 percent coupons again! Had I not had success with other brands I would have NEVER touched the stuff again.
I have had great success with Home sew, Clotilde, Superior, and a few others.

I use the YLI brand. I set it in a small jar with poster putty in the bottom to keep it from moving. I cut a small hole in the jar lid put half a drinking straw in there and threaded it through. This gets the twists and loops out before it gets to the tension discs. I run it through a thread stand after it leaves the jar and before it gets to the guides on my machine. I have several machines, singer, janome, whiite, this works on all of them. I use regular thread in the bobbin. I have had no trouble with this method. Hope this helps someone. :-)

I use SewArt thread on a vertical holder and just completed a quilt using mono thread. Did not have any problems and did not have to adjust tension, however, every machine is different so if still having problems, loosen tension as suggested.

I've never had problems since I read somewhere to use a Metallic needle 80/12.
