Not being a real quilter yet (I make mostly just blocks) I was wondering if any of you use muslin for the blocks. I really like the looks of muslin, it looks old fashioned. I am thinking of trying some for my applique Sue backgrounds like in the picture.

Kona has a very nice muslin out that would probably work really well. They have both white & cream colors, if you have a local JoAnns try looking there. I make a wall hanging using the white and it came out really nice.

Oh yes, do try the muslin as the background for the Sunbonnet Sues. But since it shrinks so very much, you might want to pre-wash?

I like the unbleached for old fashioned looking quilts. ( and I believe Sue is older than most of us!) LOL

I have used muslin for my backings and also for a scrappy quilt made with strips. I agree it works well with "Sue". Your blocks are really cute!

I use muslin a lot and use it on all my backs. As long as it is a good quality. It quilts so beautifully and I love the soft feel and the old fashioned look! If you want the old puckered look, then you don't have to wash it. It's all up to you!

Thanks for the replies! Soon as I find the time I will make some with muslin then. By the way, can any of you spare me some time?
