Quilting Shops In PA

I'm headed to Carlisle, PA next week from Boston to the first car corral of the year with dh. If I have to walk acres and acres all week long to look at cars and parts, he can stop at every quilting/fabric shop along the way. Any help would be appreciated. We're staying in Mechanicsburg. TIA

I know Carlisle somewhat but not the quilting stores. I have a few suggestions though - if you have a smart phone there is a great app I have called "QUILT SHOPS" that uses where you are and then maps out quilt shops within a specified area (ie. 20 miles from where you are).

My next suggestion is - you are only an hour away from BIRD IN HAND, PA - this is one of the nicest places to visit for quilters there are several stores that sell quilts and several fabric type stores either in BIH or near there - this is considered Amish country (At least I always considered it part of Lancaster Amish country). And you're only a 1/2 hour from Gettysburg, PA I believe there is a nice quilting shop there PLUS it is an awesome place to see. And don't forget Harrisburg, PA there are (If I remember correctly) 2 nice quilt shops there. You're about 45 mins from Hershey PA which has a nice quilt shop - AND it is a neat place to see.

Don't know if this helps but maybe it will give you some ideas?

Good luck and have fun.

Carrie, I forgot about that app, I already have it. I will be using it. Already told dh he must go with me to Amish country.

Debbie, we were going to the Ford Show cause we have all Ford's, but my vacation time is maxed out and I have to use it now. We used to live on LI (northshore) before moving to Boston.

Quiltbugger, I heard about Sauders and will be stopping there too.
Thanks all

Have fun. My husband and I went to a car corral in Carlisle years ago. LOTS of walking--I wasn't into quilting then so it was a very boring hot trip for me!

We're here now and it is freezing. Walked for 2 days. Dh didn't find anything interesting. Off to Amish country tomorrow to find quilting shops and fabric.

As always, the Amish always cease to amaze me. I stopped at the Log Cabin Quilt Shop in Bird In Hand and it was beautiful. I didn't have much time as they were closing (maybe that was a good thing). Picked up a few patterns and little things for my sewing room. Their quilts are magnificient. And the shop is to die for. They have an Amish wagon in the middle of the shop filled with everything and anything. Then I also stopped at a yarn shop that spins and dyes her yarns. All different fibers. Again....in my glory. I only bought 2 different sock yarns. But both are on the internet and I can order on-line. Then on Sunday we went to a Model A show and they had a flea market. I picked up a few things for my sewing room. A couple of iron tools that showmakers used to make shoes. Think they are called lasts. I can use them as decorations or to hang quilts off of. I even thought of using them as towel holders in the bathrooms. Dh will sandblast them. Thanks for the suggestions.

We went back to Bird in Hand again a couple of weeks ago. Went back to the same quilt shop and bought a ton of fabrics to make a king size quilt. Also went to Zooks and spent a bundle. Dh bought a 1930 Model A and we had to go back to finalize the sale. There was a glitch with the title and spent a few hours at the owners bank, they had to satisfy the loan for that car (who gives a loan on a 30 yo car). I sat there and constantly told them they were all cutting into my quilting time to shop. I only had 6 hrs to shop cause they shut the town down on Sundays. We had such a nice peaceful weekend (except for the car issue). Dh was totally relaxed. I must take him there again to unwind.
