I just finished piecing a Snail's Trail queen size in off whites and navy/black. Now comes the hardest part for me. What quilting design goes with that? I hand quilt. And, do I use dark thread on dark, and light on light? Help!!!!

Hi Norah ----

I am new to quilting so can't help you with quilting for your quilt. I to would love to make a Snail Trail quilt and have a pattern but need to know amount of material I need to buy for queen size quilt using two colors. OR tell me were you found your pattern :

Hi. Boy, do you have the name I should have! I am a roadrunner forever, but slowing down some now. I have a place in TX that I like to go to in the winter, but can't go yet, as my son is getting married in March. Where are you? Our place is in Caldwell.
As for the pattern, here is a good website. It does not have the yardage and neither do I. I went to my stash, and bought a few pieces to go with it, so I have no idea how much of what I used. I would have to tell you that it took a whole trailer full of fabric and then I had to go buy more. That is a quilter's tale, for sure. They're worse than fishermen.
I'm going to post a picture soon, hopefully.

Snail's Trail is not the best starter quilt because of the triangle edges stretching a little, so it is hard to keep the size of the block true. If you are an experienced seamstress, it won't be as hard. Good luck with your quilting. It gets in your blood.

Hi Norah,

Yes I am in Texas --- in Irving --- I'm not familiar with Caldwell,
is it near Dallas???

Thank you for your info re Snail Trail quilt. It may be awhile before I actually get to it, I am currently working on "Little Umbrella Girl" for my grandaughter, as it is alot of applique I will be working on it for awhile, unless I get impatient and want to start something new. The pattern really appeals to me if I can find right fabric --I'm sure no problem there. Will just buy lots and add to my stash which is growing

Calwell is south about 3 hours. I live in CA about 8 months of year.
I always work on more that one project because I get bored. Got a pic of umbrella girl?

Hi Norah, Sorry I do not have a digital camera to take pic of quilt.

The blocks are 16 inch square and are appliqued girls with big old fashioned hats and umbrellas, they have long dresses and some embroidered flowers at each side. A very old quilt pattern, my aunt gave me the pattern long ago copied on a brown paper bag.

Nice meeting you --- will have to look on map for Caldwell, my daughter used to live in Houston and I would drive down quite often

Have a very Happy NewYear
