Your local quilt shop probably offers classes. That would be a great start...you'll avoid all the trial and error phase and have a great first quilt in a very short time:>)

Hello and welcome to the Quilting Board! I just completed my first large quilt top . I did the 9 patch and had alot of fun. I am just learning how to quilt and I have gotten so much help from people here. Good luck:)

Welcome! Good luck with your first quilt. A Log Cabin, Rail Fence, Trip Around the World, 4-Patch or squares of several different fabrics are all good beginner's quilts. Most of all...have fun.

Well there is alot of help here, and there is also a tuturials page that I find very helpful! There are alot of easy patterns to get you started, and help from many wonderfully gifted quilters on here along the way.

I agree. I did a huge sampler in a class to start. Learned many things that have helped ever since!
