Has anyone used or made a quilting wall like Patty Thompson has in her FMQ tutorial (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2UoUzK19Vww&NR=1 )? She has ceiling tiles attached to her wall. When she needs to make a quilt sandwich she puts the backing up on the wall, uses 505 spray to attach the batting, sprays 505 again and attaches the quilt top. No more pinning. Does anyone use that process and what kind of success do you have? It sure makes things look easier. I hope this makes sense.

I watched the video. I have used spray basting, but not on a wall. I have found that the spray 'drifts' all over the room. I like spray basting, but I think next time I'm going to try to spray outside, and then carry the pieces in to sandwich them.

Yes I used her method for basting and loved it. But I used June Taylor basting spray. I will never pin bast my quilts again. In the time that it takes to pin bast I was able to get 4 quilts basted. The only fall back is that it gets everything sticky. But it's worth it!!

I think there is also some newspaper spread on the floor. So this really minimizes the excess spritz getting all over your wall and floor.

So it's a few extra minutes of putting up the newspaper. Not a big deal.

I lay a king sized sheet on my living room floor and pin into the carpet using T-pins. I then pin the backing to the sheet, spray with basting spray then lay out the batting and straighten it out and then spray and put the top on the batting. I have had very good luck doing this and the spray does not get on anything but the outside edge of the sheet.
By pinning the backing to the sheet and making sure it is very taunt, I do not get any pleats,etc.in the quilt. Hope this makes sense!!!

Featherweight - question for you! - When you say you pin the backing to the sheet - **what kind of pins** are you using to pin the backing to the king sized sheet?

Are you using the same "T" pins, or, as you using regular basting pins? In other words, I am trying to get a sense of if the backing gets straight pinned all the way down to the carpet as well, or, if the pinning stops at the sheet level (via basting pins). And how far apart are your pins for the backing to the king sized sheet?

This may be a good alternative for those of us without wall space, but want to use the spray method.
