I'm making about 12 Quilts for Kids. I'm using my Flynn (which I love) so birthing the quilt won't work. I had been planning on doing normal binding but I was thinking the mock binding might make more sense. I like the look of regular binding a lot more, but the mock is sooooooo much faster.

So I was wondering, for those of you who have done QFK, what do you do?

I have made a bunch of them - - and all of them have the "fake binding", with the backing brought around to the front to make the binding...it is sooooo much quicker & easier

And you attach it with a zig zag stitch? Or a normal straight stitch? Or other?

I always use a really tiny straight stitch, probably less than 1/16 of an inch away from the binding edge on the front of the quilt. They suggest using a zig zag stitch so there are no loose edges to get caught on things, but when stitching this close to the edge, there is no surplus fabric to get caught on anything.

I know that with the Downy Quilt for Kids program, they ask that you machine bind them.....

I bring the back around and fold it over. I cut it about one inch larger than the top and then fold it in half, then in half again. It helps if you press it. Then I use a zig-zag or blanket stitch. It turns out great. Sooooo easy. I don't use any pins, except maybe at the corner where I just fold one side over the other and stitch the mitered seam to hold it closed.

They don't care what method of bindign as long as the binding edges can't catch on anything like the plastic thingys on the IV lines... Even the smallest flaps can catch on them :wink:
