"Quilty" Magazine
 

I had heard of this magazine but had not seen a copy until last weel. I then got a copy from the newstand.
I am amazed at how many answers are given to questions posted here on the Board. I don't work for this company so looked at the magazine with a critical eye. I would suggest seeking out a copy and flipping thru it. You may have the same reaction to it's contents that I had.

What are you saying? Someone on the staff of the magazine reads this board and has put it into printed form? Since I read this board daily, guess I won't need the magazine, lol.

The Quilty Magazine is designed for the 'beginning' sewer/quilter. Mary Fons says in her Quiltcon lecture that people aren't having access to Home Economics in school anymore and that many young people aren't learning to sew. That many who write books or post youtubes assume that the viewers already know somethings such as what it means to 'baste' or to 'bind'. The magazine is there to fill in that nitch that is missing from magizines and books.

That's probably why your finding the answers that are found on this board are in the magazine. Not that any staff is copying it to the magazine, but that the questions and answers are common to those that are learning to sew/quilt.

I already know how to sew and am just now learning to quilt. I'm eager to see the magazine.

It really is a gret mag. Has lots of advise and easy quilts!

So sad. I think I'm part of that 'crossover' generation when home ec was still in the schools, but I don't know anyone that actually took it. I learned to sew from my mother/grandmother, and am forever grateful to them for the skill. I wonder...haven't googled...do the GS/BS even HAVE such a thing as a sewing badge? There are just some skills that shouldn't be lost.

Even though I am not a beginner I do enjoy Quilty. It has a charm to it.

Although I don't care for Mary on the Fons and Porter show.

Yes...Teeler, GS has a sewing badge. I help with my daughters troop. However, my daughter is far more advanced because I take time to r teach her at home. I do wish they still taught it in school. And, like you, I learned from My Grandmotber, to whom I am truly greatful. By the time I took home ec, I could sew circles around the teacher.
