Hi, I want to purchase an inexpensive quilt design program for my computer - does anyone have any suggestions?

I have EQ6 and it is very user friendly. The guide book has lessons that walk a beginner thru each step.

I have EQ5. I does not tell you how to assemble the quilt tho. You're on your own there.

I just got EQ6 for Christmas - $130 shipped. Not cheap, but I really do like it.

What exactly do these programs do?

Up North 01-11-2009 05:04 AM

The Quilt Design Wizard has 200 block patterns and over 3000 different fabric choices you can design any size quilt add sashing, borders change block colors and rotate them for different placement. Then you can print the directions and templates. It tells you how much fabric of each color you will need, how many blocks of each to cut. So far I am really having fun with mine and have started the first quilt that is shown in the link above.

is it a cd? it appears on your screen and then you print it out? i've never seen one at a show. does it print the templates separately or give rotary cutting instructions?

Up North 01-11-2009 10:52 AM

Butterfly wing Yes, Yes and Yes. Mine is a Cd that you load into the computer like any other program, once loaded you do not need to use the CD. It gives rotary cutting directions, I don't know if I can put this next part on here but it is the menu on the program. Hope this helps.

In the QDW program there is a link to the website. Each month they put a free pattern online that you can download into you quilt wizard program.
Also you can download all the previous patterns that go back a couple of yrs or so.
