I sew with a Janome 6600 and love it but my foot pedal is always trying to run away. Any ideas on keeping it within reach???
|
Got the same problem with my foot pedal. I'm trying to stay almost on top of it, it works a little bit better.
|
the rubber shelf liner works great. { you can get it at wal-mart} cut a peice a little larger then your foot pedal, sat you pedal on it and It should stay.
|
I use a computer mouse pad.
|
I was at a quilt show awhile back and a guy glued the rubber shelf paper on a piece of wood at an angel and put the foot petal on it and it doesn't move

I have carpet so I put some velcro on the pedal and it stays in place.

I like the mouse pad idea! Thanks
|
Have tried the mouse pad, didn't work for me. will try the rubber liner first if that doesn't then will go to the velcro.
Thanks for the tips. |
I hear you, Glenda Tex!! I have the same machine as you and continue to have the same problem. For me, a mouse pad made no difference whatsoever. I bought one of those plastic foot pedal holders ( like a chair pad) but the pedal was too wide. I even hollowed out the sides a little to try to make it fit. Now it fits but the foot won't depress all the way. What a flippin' pain. I guess I'll try the velcro. I would have bolted the darn thing down to the floor by now if I didn't move the machine to quilt.

If you have carpet, find a couple of pieces of velcro - use the side with the hooks on it -and glue them to the bottom of the foot pedal -the hooks will keep your pedal still.

ditto

I use 2 cheapo mouse pads glued together with the "sticky" side out. The pedal stays put on the pad, and the pad stays put on the carpet. I think I paid a dollar a pad...

Salley from the Grace Company shared this tip with me. And it seems to be working. They sell a product called True Grips. First, you stick the little rings on the back of your rulers so they don't slip. Then you take the little dots (these come from the center of the rings) and use them on your templates so they won't slip and lastly you take the outer piece (this looks like swiss cheese now) and you put it on the bottom of your foot control. No waste and works great. Oh, I have carpet in my sewing room.

Thanks everyone for your remedies. Wally World here I come!!!
|
The picky side of velcro. Stick it to the bottom of the feet pedal.

shelf liner keeps mine in place.

Here's what I have begun doing with each of my foot pedals and it really works. I turn it a quarter turn to the left and brace it against my left foot. I can then use my right foot on the go button and any moving that's done is controled by both feet. It keeps me very centered and aligned with my machine.

Velcro works great if you have carpet like I do.
|
Does your Janome have the start/stop button? It is just below the reverse button on mine. Unplug your pedal and use the start/stop button. I have two food pedals for my two Janomes and don't use them at all. So much handier and I have better control of my sewing this way. I could never keep mine where I could reach it. I tried all of the above methods and none of them worked. The start/stop button is different than the on/off switch.

I use the latex/silicone cabinet liner. It gives the petal someting to grip. works on my carpet or new floor mat
|
I use what looks like rubber shelf liner, but it's made to use under carpets so the carpets won't slip. I happen to have some extra.
I wrapped my foot pedal in it, secured with safety pins so it made a nice bundle. The foot pedal stays right where it should. I'm sure the rubber shelf liner works just as well. |
Double sided mounting tape. I tried the shelf liner and it still scooted around for me. This tape is like a little piece of squishy styrofoam with sticky tape on each side. My foot control is slightly recessed on the bottom so regular double sided carpet tape wouldn't have made contact with the floor. I had this other tape already and it works perfectly. Ann in TN

Love the shelf liner. I use it even under my machine and cutting boards.
What is a good Quilt Store close to you??? I will be in Arlington Labor Day weekend. |
I have tried the rubber shelf paper. In fact I've tried several of them. I am currently using the heavier duty type. Relatively thick. I am using it on a concrete floor and this time it seems to be working.
Good Luck |
I put a little kitchen rug under the machine and a piece of velcro on the bottom of the foot pedal works great.
|
I went to the dollar store and got some sticky back velcro and added a couple of the rough side strips to each of my foot petals. I have carpet and they don't move unless I pull them up and move them. I love it!! :D :D
|
Put a placemat under it. There are some that are a rubbery plastic with bumps. That would work.

DH just left for his man cave to get the name for what he gave me to use on my foot. It DROVE ME CRAZY until I rolled some of his carpet sticky stuff on the backs to keep them in place. I rolled this on the back of my big bernina foot, let it dry overnight, and put my machine foot where I wanted it to STAY. That sucker hasn't moved since.
DH is back. It's Great Grip Non Stick Rug Coating made by Flexible Products Co. He says it may not be made anymore but surely someone still makes this wonderful stuff. Unless I absolutely have to move my foot, I am NOT touching it. It says it will restick but I am not taking any chances. Thanks, DH! |

I bought that rubbermaid shelf and drawer liner. Put a piece under the foot pedal and Wow. No more skid.

love it best 9 dollars spent Thanks for this recommendation for Pedal Sta Dolphyngyrl! I checked out prices for the Pedal Sta and the best I could come up with was at JoAnn's online store. After applying the 40% off one item coupon (code EDFX239, valid through August 27th) the price came out to only $8.39. But of course, after tax and shipping that upped it again to $15.49. Can you all believe how much that inflates the cost these days?! Still a cheaper price than the other sites i found and one I gladly paid to be able to stop doing the pedal hunt whenever I sew. |
I think I had read on here one time that a lady was using a bathroom rug, one that fits in front of the toilet, put the foot pedal in the sq.cut out. I don't know how this works It sounded like a good idea when I read it. As for me my husband made me a slanted footholder like a gas pedal and I have the rubber on the bottom and that helps on my laminate floor. If your machine is facing the wall I have a flat board against the wall in front of the sewing pedal at my serger. I hope this is understood and not too confusing.
