Rag Quilt and Decorative Stitches
Have any of you made a rag quilt and used decorative stitches in each block?
I'm doing that right now as an experiment and to learn and see what one of my machines decorative stitches look like. Since my blocks are all sorts of designs and colors along wth some added batiks and a few scrap blocks thrown in the mix I'm using varigated threads for each design to hopefully help it be seen better. |
interesting technique ... I am looking forward to seeing your project.

Very interesting idea, be sure to show us the finished work.

i do that quite frequently- i love using the decorative stitches my machine offers that way- and it really takes the raggy quilt to a new level.
have fun with it and be sure to show us pictures when you get it done. |
I will post when finish. I agree it takes rag quilts to a whole new level. I'm also not just doing an X on the square but creating a square inside the block and I've gotten some good reviews so far from at least the ladies in our Wednesday sew.
Next one I create though will have more blended batiks and solid colors so the design shows up better. |
I have not tried that yet but it is on my too do list. I saw a baby rag quilt at a LQS last week made of denim and decorative variegated pink embroidered designs in each square, it was really pretty.

Yes, I've done that quite a bit. Fun!

Yes, I do that with many of my rag quilts. It gives it more visual interest and I can play around with my stitches :). I also don't always do the X pattern in the block, and I may do many different stitches in one block. That's the thing I like about rag quilts - anything goes!

oh, the square inside seems like a good thought!
|
Yes, it just requires more time!
