I've made a few rag quilts with 9" squares and 1" seams. Also, I've used standard cotton batting. I'm interested in suggestions for making one for my 5 year old granddaughter such as what type of batting (flannel batting, what is this?) size of squares for a child quilt (age 5), design...etc. I have already purchased dinosaur print fabric and 2 complimentary colors to use.

Hi and welcome.

Suanne,
Hello from the state of Washington. Welcome to the quilting board. We are glad to have you with us. Cheryl |
hi from Florida, Suanne.
A quillow sounds great to me too. There is a new 'thingy' out there now. Can't remember what it is called. but it's like a quillow, with a pet face on the pillow. Kids love them. My daughter just bought two for her kids. I've never made a rag quilt, (yet), but it sounds like a good combination to me. :D |
Welcome and glad to have you here.

Hi and Welcome from Northern Indiana ! When I make the rag quilts for the babies I start with squares that are 7 1/4, use polyester batting and sew it together. I don't think they are any real "rules" on what size to make the squares, just what works best for you and the print on the fabric. Post pics, we love oics..LOL
