In the new year I would like to make "rag quilts". Where may I find a tutorial on how to make these?
|
Use the search on top of this page or google it. I did and about a half million popped up. They are all about the same method but I only checked out about half of a half a million of them. lol :)
I was bored at the time ;) |
I love rag quilts, they are so soft and cuddly!!! You will find a great many tips here by doing a search on rags quilts.
I have to clip mine outside, lint everywhere lol!!! A really great tip from this forum was to wash the quilt (after clipping) in a pillow case to collect the strings, lint from the frist wash. I also clip as I go cause the clipping can be really hard on the hands. I like mine to fray well so I clip close together before washing. Denim makes great raggedy quilts!!! |
i love rag quilts too

I Love rag quilts also
Did a quick search here for a tute but didn't find one  LOL But they are pretty easy- I make my outside flannel squares 71/2inches the inside batting 61/2 inches - sew an X thru all the squares- then sew the squares into rows, using a 1 inch seam allowance - sew the rows together- after all together I sew a 1 inch seam allowance all around the outside edge -- then start clipping  Scroll down a bit and you will see one I made : http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-22399-1.htm |
Im a cheater.. I have the Go! die to cut the squares for me.. But what a pain.. Fringe sticks in the die!! but still alot easier than cutting the fringe by hand..

I see what you mean about the"billion entries". I have read quite a few of them. That has helped me to know the jist of making them. I wonder how much fabric is needed for a twin size one. I couldn't find any mention of amount of fabric.

http://www.lovetosew.com/ragquilt.htm The first site shows rag quilts I made using flannel and fleece, and has a tutorial site on it. The second site is another really good tutorial |
This is where I started when I made my first rag quilt:
