i wanted to make a rag style quilt, but not put backing on it. i guess that would make it a blanket not a quilt, but is there a way to do this? can someone point me in the right direction? or am i just crazy to think there is a way to make it double sided without putting a backing on it?

Sew each block with 2 pieces of fabric, wrong sides together. Then once you sew the blocks together, you have a front and back :D:D:D

As you are making a rag quilt, you are putting the backing on at the same time. You put the two squares wrong sides together and sew, leaving the edges exposed on one side. Some people put batting between, but if you want a lighter weight blanket, you can do it without the batting. If you only use one layer of fabric, you will see the wrong side of the fabric on one side. When you are finished, you don't have to quilt it. Easy and done!!!

I did mine with three layers of flannel. Babies need to be warm in N Michigan. Two of the layers were WalMart flannel, not super heavy, the middle was very heavy solid colored. It was perfect.

i also use 3 layers of flannel

Do you want the 'rag' on both sides? Not sure if you can do it on every seam. If you want every other seam that would be possible. You would have to make something like a 4 patch then when you sew the 4 patches together you would sew them on the 'wrong' side..... Clear as mud?

my mom said something like that. i have since decided to just make quillows out of the material i got because i can't figure out a way to make squares from the really cool guitar print i found. they are not in straight rows... any way would cut them some part of the guitar would be cut off. so quillows it is. :)
